about

A wise man once suggested that sound's echo never ends; the vibration continues in the air particles forever. Tom Hogan proved this wise man wrong, however, and instead of searching for lost sounds of obscure bands, decided to create his own.

'Obscure Music History (Vol 1)' sees Tom Hogan taking on personas and alter egos of dozens of bands and musicians and songwriters throughout history. From sad country singers, self-obsessed rock gods, trendy cover versions, operatic metal songs about bikes, rappers obsessed with horses, non-sensical earnest pop of the 90s, inappropriate blues singers, joyful jazz standards, and philosophers of 20th century classical music... this is a reflection of our own history. Musicians and bands with fatal flaws, fading into obscurity without even trying, leaving behind a trail of Wikipedia stubs and unanswerable trivia questions.

Is it musical comedy, or just catchy songs? Is it just absurd fun, or is it all suspiciously well-constructed pop? Why do this?

... And why not?

This album was created in conjunction with the podcast "Obscure Music History", nominated for Best Comedy at the 2018 Australian Podcast Awards, currently available on your favourite podcast app.
